Spring Serenade

Wikimedia Commons

Joyous spring tidings, dear readers! With the life giving warmth of the Equinox and the rich tradition of Easter right around the corner, I wanted to share a piece I penned some weeks ago, before the last significant snow fall, heralding the arrival of the season. Enjoy!

Sun, Cloud, Sky -
The centering calm before the storm,
Which has raised a hue and cry
Leaving all haggard and forlorn.
"Away with this!" echoes the refrain
Throughout the land,
"Has not the cruel warlock Winter
Exceeded his span?"

Dear Friends -
Your sentiment I share:
Awaiting Spring's resplendent birth,
'Midst the unforgiving frost bleak and bare,
'Tis hard to keep a mood of mirth
At sight of a blanket of buried Earth.

But let us endeavor to let it serve -
This induced solitude -
As a moment to observe,
Cultivating gratitude,
For the wonders Nature does exude:

The resourceful squirrel
Over falling flake refuses to whine;
With instinct for its guide,
Finds forage on which to dine.
No sour song does the cardinal sing
As she takes flight, In search of
Early blooming berries for to bring,
Nourishing her through the wind whipped night.

So let us not with pessimism abide,
As we witness Winter's final act:
Rolling with the rhythm of seasons' tide,
Secure with the knowledge of recurring fact
Of Spring's return as a bloom adorned bride,
Her boon of light ever intact.
